Who is the guest?

Karen Lo is a Hong Kong-based sport and performance psychologist, author, university lecturer and founder of Inner Edge, a sport psychology consultancy supporting athletes and performers across Hong Kong and Asia. With over two decades of experience in competitive athletics, she specialises in helping athletes develop the mental skills required to perform consistently under pressure, including confidence, concentration, motivation, emotional regulation and resilience.

A former Hong Kong national swimmer, Karen spent seven years competing at an elite level and was once considered a potential Olympic athlete. Her own experiences of the psychological pressures associated with high-performance sport inspired her to pursue sport psychology and help other athletes overcome similar challenges. She holds a degree in psychology from the University of Hong Kong and a master's degree in sport psychology from Boston University. She is also a Certified Mental Performance Consultant and a registered practitioner of the International Society of Sport Psychology.

Karen has worked with athletes across a wide range of sports and has provided psychological support to organisations including the Golf Association of Hong Kong, China, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Her work includes individual consultations, competition support and workshops designed to help athletes manage performance anxiety, overcome mental barriers and maximise their potential. In recognition of her contribution to the field, she received Boston University's Wheelock College of Education and Human Development's Global Impact Award in 2023.

Through her work, Karen advocates the importance of treating the mental side of sport as an essential part of athletic development, helping athletes not only improve their competitive performance but also develop a healthier relationship with sport and build skills that benefit them beyond competition.
